Napatech will be showcasing this joint solution in their booth #7B67 at MWC 2024 in Barcelona from Feb. 26th through 29th.
Enterprises are increasingly adopting AI-enabled autonomous systems interconnected via wireless networks, to address use cases like autonomous vehicles, drones, Industry 4.0 factories, Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR). These applications leverage sensor fusion, which is the process of combining data from different types of sensors or similar sensors mounted in different locations. Through its Application Suite, HyperBlox provides a platform that enables the development and deployment of AI-enabled sensor fusion applications integrated with converged connectivity solutions based on private 4G, private 5G or WiFi.
Handling high-bandwidth video and AR/VR data streams for sensor fusion requires processing massive amounts of data being transmitted over wireless networks. In order for the network infrastructure to be cost-effective, it’s important to maximize the number of devices and streams that can be supported in a small-footprint edge server. To address this need, HyperBlox and Napatech have collaborated on a joint packet core solution that offloads the compute-intensive User Plane Function (UFP) to a SmartNIC, thereby maximizing packet core performance while minimizing server CPU utilization, footprint and power consumption.
To quantify the business benefits of this UPF offload solution, HyperBlox and Napatech analyzed a representative use case for a network edge deployment, comprising 10,000 sensors, 10 Mbps average bandwidth per sensor, 10 flows per sensor and an average packet size of 1200 Bytes. Using the Napatech NT200-based UPF offload solution running on an HPE 16-core server, HyperBlox was able to support 20 times as many users than with a pure software-based UPF (10,000 users per server vs. 500).
